Balwen Shepherd's Hut Reviews

Claire
What a wonderful place to stay. It was our first time in a shepherds hut and it ticked all our boxes. It was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and had everything we could need. The addition of a hot tub and fire pit was the icing on the cake. The hot tub is wood fired and super easy to use. Although there is no oven, we just used the bbq which suited us fine. There is also an amazing cafe literally over the road which serves great food, especially the breakfasts. The hut sits in a sheep field and its super quiet apart from the odd baa from the sheep. Its great for sitting out and star gazing and just generally getting away from it all. We both were able to fully recharge our batteries and properly relax. It is also in a great position for visiting places such as Chirk Castle and Elan Valley. Debbie the host is very friendly, accommodating and incredibly quick to respond to enquiries but also happy to leave us alone to enjoy our time there. Thank you Debbie for a fabulous holiday. We cant recommend this place highly enough.
Absolutely loved it it was a nice little lodge place at back so peacefully and relaxing. So clean and comfy enjoyed the hot tub .only thing is we got lost cause couldn't we see where it was maybe a bigger sign so people know it's the right place .other wise great x
Emilia
Me and my partner booked this for a long weekend over the bank holiday and were extremely pleased. The HUT has an extremely cozy vibe yet still being more than spacious enough for two people, especially with nice weather opening up the doors to the outdoor space. The location is also brilliant there are lots of local pubs and places to eat as well as some amazing hikes and nature a short drive away. The hosts were also extremely friendly and welcoming and also recommended some things for us to do whilst we were there one of which was a fundraiser which we went to and had a fantastic time meeting some of the locals. This was a brilliant weekend that we will remember for a long time!
Yvonne
Beautiful place, very peaceful and tranquil. Lovely hut, extremely comfortable bed. Great facilities, hot tub, bbq and fire pit. Take extra wood. Sheep surrounding the hut were really lovely to watch. Need to drive over grass to get to the hut so be aware of this if the weather is bad. Also there is camping next door which we were not aware of before, luckily no one was there but it would not have felt quite so secluded if anyone had been camping. Debbie was lovely. Great communication before and during the trip. Lovely river nearby and spa 5 mins away. Quite pricey but was good for convenience. Tesco and Aldi 10 mins drive. Cafe opposite was lovely, serving local produce. Tried to get breakfast at the local pub nags head but stopped serving at 10 sadly. Had everything we needed, we took a travel air fryer as no oven but other than that everything else was provided. We really appreciated all that was provided such as washing up liquid, kitchen and loo roll, milk and water, towels and dressing gowns, plus starter wood, kindling and fire lighters. We were looking for seclusion so appreciated being left to our own devices, knowing Debbie was available if necessary. Great little place and would happily go back again. Thanks Debbie

We had an amazing week at Balwen Shepherds Hut. Beautiful setting that was peaceful and relaxing. Accomodation has everything required, comfortable bed and the hot tub was great! Hosts were lovely checking in with us throughout our stay. My personal favourite is the sheep surrounding the hut!
The Balwen Shepherd's Hut was clean, comfortable and cosy. Despite it's small size it was completely adequate for two adults and our baby daughter. The owner had left milk which was handy because I had left ours in the fridge at home. There is ample outdoor space. The area was very peaceful and we had a night of clear skies where it was easy to see the stars. The woodfired hot tub was great and easy to get the hang of. You really are up close with the sheep which was amusing. We also used the barbecue. We used the hut as a base to go on walks on the Severn Way and Montgomery Canal. We visited Welshpool and Montgomery which is a very pretty village. There is an inaccuracy in the listing which states that there is a combi microwaveoven. This is not the case. There is a builtin microwave, but it is not a combi and does not have the oven features that you would find in a combi. For this reason we had to throw away about 30 of food and then go out and purchase more food which we could cook there. This was particularly frustrating because I discovered this when I was in my pyjamas and went to cook dinner! Please consider this if purchasing food for your stay.
Helena
We had a perfect little weekend away at Balwen Shepherds Hut. You really are amongst the sheep! Our host, Debbie, checked in with us and was happy to help with anything that came our way. I would recommend acquainting yourself with how to keep a fire lit for the woodfired hot tub, as my partner and I were less than skilled in that area. But that was an us problem!
Absolutely seamless from the booking, great directions and accommodation exactly as described. For a compact stay it had everything in its place and the hot tub was a lovely bonus. Host friendly and very accommodating and location was ideal for walks, biking, pub and amazing plant nursery within striking distance with great cafe food 1010! Only recommendation comfier seating for outside space.
Cannot recommend enough we had an amazing trip, gorgeous hut and just as described! Short distance to lots a lovely places so were spoilt for choice of where to visit. The hut was clean and so quiet as youre far from houses and roads. The hosts were so lovely and welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed. Stock up on logs!
Really enjoyed our stay here Debbie was very attentive Would recommend
Ekaterina
Gorgeous hut in a very relaxing location! I highly recommend this hut as a romantic getaway as well as a holiday on your own to escape the lifes hassle. The hut is very secluded surrounded by the field of farm sheep which was quite therapeutic to see them behind the fence while being in a hot tub or doing a morning yoga. The indoor wood burning stove made it extra comfortable in the winter to keep the hut nice and warm. The owners were very caring and were always checking on me if I needed anything to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Highly recommended during any time of the year and will certainly be back again. Thank you!
We had a lovely stay, the hut was cosy and well equipped and the hosts provided a great info booklet of places to visit and things to do!
The hut was really lovely. It was so clean, tidy and comfortable. Hosts were really friendly and accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. The grounds that the accommodation is on are gorgeous, sheep right on your doorstep! The general area is lovely, with nice villages, walks and gardens to visit. We had a really enjoyable time!
Karlyn
Great stay! The shepherds hut was cute and had everything we need! Was very clean and had all the mod cons. Hot tub was an added bonus. Debbie was a great host, checking in every so often, making sure we were ok.
Best ever quiet place you have everything what you need. Fantastic place for chill out with your partner perfect for runaway from city definitely we back there
We had a lovely stay at Balwen hut for our anniversary weekend. It was very well equipped, including lots of kitchenware, as well as complimentary tea and coffee and it even had a hairdryer! The hut was warm despite the chilly weather outside, the shower was great, and the bed was very comfortable. Debbie was very thoughtful, and when we told her struggled heating the hot tub she came and helped us out, and we were able to enjoy some stargazing! The surrounding area is perfect for hiking or exploring historical places and there are plenty of restaurants as well. Would highly recommend!
A lovely Shepherds Hut located in a lovely setting close to the River and the Severn Way Canal, with Red Kites, Buzzards and Pheasants to name but a few birds continuously in the area. The facilities were great, the Hot Tub did get warm on the only opportunity we had to use it, but not too hot, probably down to user error on our part... Debbie is a wonderful host who messaged every now and again to make sure things were all OK. The bed was very comfortable and it was lovely to wake up with Natures Alarm, the birds singing and a slight breeze coming through the window at the end of the bed. The shower was great, powerful and hot, the towels were of great quality too. Although the weather wasn't the best for our stay, it was still a great place to stay and one that we will surely return to in the future and if you are into Astrophotography, the clear skies are amazing.
Vanessa
High standard throughout Shepherds Hut with top quality furnishings, equipment and accessories. Very informative booklet about the hut, local area and places to visit.Very private. Only thing I felt needed was a couple of chairs camping type that you could relax in by the fire pit. Hosts excellent. They both introduced themselves but left us alone alrhough we knew they were available at any time if we needed them or wanted to ask anything. We would definitely go back and recommend it as a place to stay.
This property is a hidden gem. Is fully equipped with everything you could think off for your stay. We wanted peace and quiet and thats what we got and more. Perfect with the hot tub, then using the bbq and sitting by the fire of an evening. Was spotless and great communication with the owner. Would highly recommend.
Owners are lovely people, nothing at all was too much trouble. Communication was excellent, also advised us of some nice places to eat & what was in the area. The hut was clean & tidy. A lot of thought has gone into the hut, inside & outside! Ground around the hut is so private you would know anyone was around. Thanks again for a nice stay, well be returning soon
Christopher
Very homely hut packed with all you could need for the stay. Enjoyed the peace and quiet sitting in the hot tub, while lighting the fire pit for a tranquil evening plenty of wood for the BBQ too. The host is lovely and even helped us with a couple extra things while we were there to accommodate for the unfortunate weather. I would recommend bringing a citronella candle for the flies though, can't be helped due to the location. Very enjoyable little holiday nonetheless and would definitely recommend.
Amanda
The Balwen hut is lovely , nice and clean in a nice quiet location. Really enjoyed our stay. The only thing we had a problem with was flies going inside the hut buzzing around us at night this cannot be helped due to the time of year and been in countryside. The area is lovely , the owner was lovely and helpful. definitely recommend
Amanda
Amazing property ! ! This property is in a secluded plot in a large field, there is everything you need at this location i.e BBQ, Fire pit, wood fired hot tub and a table and chairs with a parasol. The Shepherds Hut is absolutely beautifully done out and has everything you need for your stay. There is a pub a 5 minute walk away which also does lovely food. We met the owner who was very nice and only lived a few yards away in the B&B and was on hand to help if needed. The only negative was the wifi it was a bit hit and miss but it was'nt a problem for us because we wanted peace and quiet anyway. Also, the access to the hut could be an issue for people with mobility problems due to the access through the field to get to the hut.
