The Moorhen Retreat Reviews

We had a wonderful stay at Moorhen Retreat. The accommodation was fantastic, super comfy bed, proper luxurious and BIG towels, Sarah and Pete had obviously thought of it from a customer perspective not just about the look , which was also stunning, but how it works using and staying in it. Lovely location, quiet and peaceful with the added bonus of a prelit hot tub! Thanks for a great stay .
The stay was lovely the room was tidy and clean, theres a fridge and small cooker with a combi microwave the hot tub was lit 30 minutes before arrival and was a welcome site after a long drive, the night sky was beautiful in the hot tub and the Pesseco and cupcakes on arrival made our valentines stay extea special.

Our stay at the Moorhen Retreat was absolutely perfect. I booked very last minute but this wasn't an issue for Sarah who ensured everything was perfect for us at the property. The hot tub was warmed and ready as soon as we arrived, I even mentioned it was my partners birthday and we were surprised with the lovliest treats that made our weekend extra special. I was worried it would be chilly but with the heating system inside we were sure kept lovely and toasty even on a very rainy night. I honestly can't fault this accomodation and would recommend 100. The listing in fact doesn't do it justice. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.
Well what can I say this place is absolutely incredible the owner she is ... Well what can I say this place is absolutely incredible the owner she is fantastic before we even got there you reached out to let me know about the place and because me and my wife was going there for a anniversary night away she made it so special hot tub on and ready to go a warm welcome from her and a lovely treat to say happy anniversary to us both she gave up a bottle of wine some amazing cakes and some snacks it's all the little things that make this place incredible and one in a million
We recently stayed at The Moorhen Retreat in Oswestry and had the most amazing, relaxing experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at ease. Surrounded by nature, the retreat offers a true escape from the hustle and bustleserene, peaceful, and incredibly private. We werent overlooked or disturbed once during our stay. The property itself was immaculate and beautifully presented. A lovely personal touch awaited us on arrival two delicious cakes and a bottle of bubbly, which made us feel instantly welcomed. Evenings in the hot tub under the stars were an absolute highlightperfect for stargazing and unwinding. The addition of Netflix was a great bonus, making cozy nights in even more enjoyable. We couldnt have asked for a better place to switch off and recharge. We loved it so much, we've already booked again for after the sixweek holidaysa muchneeded break were already looking forward to!

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Moorhen Retreat. Sarah and Pete were wonderful hosts, so friendly and accommodating. They gave us a tour of their farm, which was brilliant and were happy to chat when we saw them, but also left us to our own devices. The accommodation was exactly as advertised, if anything the pictures dont do it justice. Every detail has been thought of. We would definitely go back!
Absolutely stunning place and very peaceful for the perfect getaway. Definitely recommend
I had a delightful stay at the Moorhen Retreat, peaceful and quiet despite being on a working farm. The accomodation is ideal for two people, comfortable and private with the hot tub and added bonus. The dark skies make nighttime bathing wonderful as you can observe the wonders of the universe.
Joanne
We had a wonderful four nights and days at Moorhen Retreat. We met Peter inperson and had text contact with Sarah both were really friendly and helpful. The accommodation was well thought out, clean, comfortable and wellequipped and maintained. The hob took a little workingout, though we sorted it. We slept really well, apart when being divebombed by a couple of flies it is a working livestock farm so some flies can be expected. We used the barbeque every day, and the hot tub most days or nights if you wanted to skinnydip, the hot tub can be seen from the top floor of the farm house. It is a beautiful and quiet secluded spot, great for nature lovers. There are towns and villages within easy reach, though we did not eat out at any local pubs so I cannot comment on those. Overall, we had a really enjoyable time, away from the hustle and bustle of our usual lives, and would definitely consider staying again. Maybe next time we will try out the new Heron Pod. Thank you Peter and Sarah for a lovely stay.
Just a wonderful place to stay. Every facility and convenience catered for, stunning scenery and host who are caring and kind. Couldnt ask for more. Will be a special memory for us always. Thank you
Steven
To all the men that are hopeless romantics like myself. Well this weekend stay is a winner. Its ideal for your wife to relax and switch off from everyday busy huddle and bustle life. Somewhere for your wife to think just how awesome their husband really is. Beautiful relaxing scenery with a superb hot tub with nothing but the open air with nothing but quiet around. The shepherds hutcarriage is perfect and trust me whatever it costs you its 100 worth more. 30 minutes drive to the waterfalls. And best of all your left alone for the whole stay nobody tapping the door asking if everything is ok. Sarah the land lady is a kind woman that will help usyou men go the extra mile for your wife. 100 be visiting again next year Sarah thankyou. The memories my wife now has of the 1st time her husband done something nice is ever lasting thanks again
We spent 2 nights Friday and Saturday at the moorhen retreat celebrating being together 10 years. Communication before we arrived was key and stress free, we was greeted upon arrival and any questions were asked and we were shown how to use the hot tub which was already heated up for us and ready to dive in. we were told about nice walks in the area and nice places to eat. The place itself was beautiful, great location, clean and tidy and they really had thought about everything. The bed was really comfy, shower was good, we used the gas bbq which worked a treat. The hot tub was good, only negative bit about it was with it being a wood fired hot tub it doesnt give off the jacuzzi effect with bubbles etc but we knew this anyway. Again good location, nice and quiet, the sound of wildlife was really nice, again only negative was there was a lot of flys in the trailer but had plenty of ways to stop this. Overall we really enjoyed a child free weekend and I would certainly recommend to anyone. Thank you
Absolutely fabulous , thank you and see you again very soon! xx
Madlin

Samantha
Wonderful shepherds hut as described, very clean and has everything you need. Fantastic location, so peaceful and remote so great for private romantic trips. Hot tub was great and the owners even started it up for us before we arrived so no messing around waiting for it to heat up. Owners so lovely, Pete took us for a tour of his farm and its was great seeing the hills and lots of sheep.
Kirsty
Peter and Sarah are fabulous hosts. The moorhen retreat is one of the most relaxing places we have been for a long time. The hut is gorgeous and time has been taken to make it feel like home away from home. The hot tub is incredible and really holds its heat unlike previous wood fire hot tubs we have used. Nothing to fault here. Will be booking here again.
We absolutely loved our stay at The Moorhen Retreat! The hut has been very well designed & the views & surroundings are just amazing. Great for a quiet weekend away with fantastic hosts.
Adrian
Beautiful Shepherds Hut. Wonderful surroundings with a sense of tranquility and peace. This is really is a quiet place and a rural escape. Facilities are excellent with bbq, hot tub with creatively crafted outside space. Such a joy to just sit outside and watch the sheep and wildlife display before you. Lovely and friendly hosts. The best. Thanks.
The week was idyllic and we can't wait to come back. We particularly appreciated the treats on arrival and the tour was great fun. The hut was very comfortable, particularly the large bed, and had everything you could need. The wood fired hot tub was ace and we made good use of the gas BBQ. Thank you Pete and Sarah for being such wonderful hosts and hope you had a brilliant well deserved holiday.
Elysia
The place was gorgeous and the view was amazing. The sheep in the field across and the rabbits and the ducks just made it even more special. It was lovely and remote. The owners were very friendly.
Sarah and Pete were excellent hosts . . nothing was too much trouble for them. The accommodation was quaint, clean, very comfortable and excellent value for money and the view was to die for. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be visiting again

We had a wonderful weeklong stay in this stunning shepherd's hut which was perfect and had everything needed including a great woodfired hot tub which we used every night. The location is beautiful, quiet and was ideal for us to travel to a mixture of locations plus some local gems. Loved having all the sheeplambs as neighbours and the farm tour was a nice addition. Pete and Laura were amazing hosts. We can not fault the Moorhen Retreat and would definitely return and recommend it to all.
Matthew
Great peaceful location, central to some amazing scenery, welcoming owners, Thank you for a great stay
Michelle
This is the first time we had stayed in a shepards hut, and wow we was blown away! The pictures do not do it justice, it is much better, such beauty surrounds it with the most amazing views, the bed is the best we have had whilst on holidays the sheets pillows and duvet divine, water pressure is fantastic, i still can't believe you can have everything you need in a shepards hut and space, the wood firerd hot tub was excellent so much better than an electric one as it retains the heat , you get a starter pack for the hot tub which was more than enough for our 5 night stay, and we used it everyday alot! The dressing gowns that were supplied for our stay were so super soft i didn't want to take it off, we also were left a gift when we arrived that was such a lovely thing to do , but i won't tell you what it was , so you can book this place and find out! Pete and Sarah the owners are fantastic very friendly and welcoming and pete took us on a tour of the massive farm in his 4x4 right up the hills, we felt like we were in the clouds the views were amazing, so much to do in the area like the waterfalls and the fab pub the royal oak with affordable mouth watering food and owestry was amazing, we can't wait to go back
Such a treat. Clean, well stocked, lovely welcome. Time out, a beautiful retreat. Thank you to our hosts. Definitely recommend
Jayden

Sarah and Pete are very welcoming and helpful, we loved seeing the sheep and having a tour round the land. We are really looking forward to visiting again, it is so peaceful and has amazing views too.
Damian

Charlie
Amazing lodge which exceeded expectations.
Samantha
Absolutely loved our stay. What a gorgeous, tranquil and homely shepards hut. The pictures don't do it justice. The furnishings and surroundings make this a beautiful place to stay and the best way to relax and unwind. The hot tub was an absolute dream, and nothing better than relaxing under the stars with a glass of fizz. Owners Sarah, Pete and son Owen were so friendly and welcoming. Honestly can't wait to come back and stay again. Thank you so much for the stay!
Chloe Louise
Me and my boyfriend both 19 years old had the best time, owners are so welcoming and kind, loved the tour of the farm and lands. hut is fully equipped with everything you'd need for a lovely time! 100 will be returning and would fully recommend, if you're after a quite, peaceful break away, this is the place to go.
