High Rigg Shepherd's Delight Reviews

Externally, the grounds are very overgrown compared to pictures and not maintained. Hot tub was dated and not clean enough. Also property was next to a septic tank, so subject to unpleasant smells.Inside was clean, nicely furnished but tiny. The toilet couldnt be used properly without opening the doom, not good for a romantic get away! Photos extremely manipulated to appear bigger. Booked for 3 nights but stayed for 36 hours then left. Booked hotel else where at our own cost.
Great location, easy to get to, safe parking. Really nice cabin, hot tub was very nice. Nice small touches like free prosecco & pies. Very peaceful and secluded
Lovely, quiet location. Friendly and helpful owners. Will definitely recommend to others.

I dont think it was quite worth the 200 a night we paid despite the lovely location the lodge itself showed signs of wear. Fridge was so loud I had to turn it off at night, the roof could do with a repaint, there was cobwebs behind the bedside table and you couldnt swing a cat in the shower. The hot tub wasnt very private as passbyers could see in from other huts there was also a lot of chlorine in it. The host was attentive and the shepherds pies in the fridge were a lovely gesture. It was a nice place to stay for 3 nights, I just didnt think it was worth the money we paid.
What a wonderful place to stay, peaceful, idyllic and comfortable! The owner did come say hi, and left us with two beautiful pies to eat and a bottle of prosecco to enjoy too, what a lovely touch. The space is super luxurious, with a very comfy bed and pillows, and I'm very fussy! All the towels are huge and the robes are soft, warm and fluffy. The place is kitted out with so much, but not too much, all very nicely designed too. The hot tub are is wonderful, with a canopy and two chairs for cooling off in, a clothes horse, and table to put your drinks on. The tub was really nice, very clean too. Overall, this is a high end space, in a beautiful place, very peaceful. You're far enough away from everyone else that we barely saw anyone while we were there, just what we wanted. There's an abundance of wildlife to watch, loads of pheasants, a huge variety of birds, moorhen, ducks, sheep and even a deer! Lots of bats at night too, over the pond. Mr Waitrose found us using the what three words location! Fyi, there shampoo and body wash but no conditioner, so bring your own. I'd love to see a Welcome pack with instructions on how to use the heater and oven etc. with details on local walks, pubs etc. Things that'd improve our stay, a caffetier would be a nice edition, kitchen tongs, and proper oven gloves. Also, the dinner plates don't fit in the washing up bowl, so make it difficult to wash up. I adore this spot and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Amazing place everything you need, very relaxing
We had a truly relaxing few days at shepherds delight. The accommodation was quaint, cosy and just enough. The hot tub was lovely on the very chilly days we had there. Being overlooked by nature was the highlight for me and having our own private space. Thank you for our delicious shepherds pie and Prosecco on arrival, this was a kind gesture . I would definitely recommend and would visit again.
Considering this is a compact space, every effort has been made for guests comfort. The space is gorgeous, with a really cosy and comfortable feel. It was lovely to get away for a winter break and soak in the hot tub. I imagine it will be just as lovely in the summer, with the french doors open. The cottage pie left for us was the best ever!
We have had a fantastic 4 night stay at Shepherds Delight, the location is perfect for a peaceful time, the hut was compact and bijou but perfectly formed for everything we needed. The hot tub was as expected and secluded only real overseers where the sheep and ducks. Although its location was rural we were in close proximity to Hadrians wall, Vindolanda and Carlisle. There are plenty of pubs around that all serve delicious food, our first night there we ate the fabulous shepherds pies and enjoyed the Prosecco provided by the accommodation, this was a nice touch as it meant after a long drive we didnt have to think about getting food. We will definitely recommend and return.
It looked and felt just as I had expected based on the photos and website description. Shepherds Delight sat in a delightful, wooded area with the large pond in front with ducks. If iit weren't for the terrible storm that came through Cumbria during my stay, I would have been able to enjoy outdoor hot tub, barbecue and decked seating area in front of the pond. The TV cables needed tidying and the WiFi was not securely attached to the wall, but it wasn't a big deal I let the owner know. I would recommend it to most people, with the caveat that it will not suit someone who has MCS due to the cleaning products and air spray.
Absolutely LOVED this place. Been to many Shepherd Huts and Glamping pods and this is the best I've found. So spacious, so private. It had everything you could ever want. Hot tub was amazing and the fact it was undercover was perfect due to it raining on NYE! We will be booking back!
Victoria
Honestly this is perfect for people who like being in nature with not much around! It was so peaceful and relaxing. The cleanliness was perfect couldnt fault it. I have nothing bad to say other than we will be back next year for another stay !!!
Nicholas

A little hidden gem. A romantic getaway. Shepards pie and fizz a lovely treat. Would definitely recommend. The hot tub was great after a long day out walking.
Lindsey

We had a lovely stay and honestly couldnt fault anything! The lodge was beautifully furnished and comfortable, the surroundings were so peaceful and we had everything we needed. We ordered a food hamper for our stay and it was superb, the homemade food was delicious and we had plenty to keep us going for the whole weekend! Thank you so much!
Had a lovely time in our Shepherds Rigg, very comfortable and cozy, Peaceful location and a nice view of the lake, the Hot Tub was a fabulous edition, and the welcome Shepherd's pie and Prosecco went down a treat, would definitely recommend.
This was a fantastic weekend getaway a lovely property with incredibly friendly hosts, in a beautiful location that had been made to feel like a proper home from home. I came here on a recommendation and will certainly be recommending it myself in future. The hot tub and woodfire made the trip feel extra special, and the shepherd's pie and fizz was a lovely delicious! touch. The site itself is incredibly scenic and a really great spot if you're looking to get away from it all, as we were. We were also lucky enough to meet the owners in the local pub that evening, who were very welcoming. Thanks so much for having us!
Me and my boyfriend stayed this week and what a pleasure it has been. A beautiful private location , perfect to explore many beautiful parts of the Lake District . The cabin was stunning inside and out. Clean , well kept & had all the facilities you need for a short break . The Hottub was amazing with amazing views out onto the lake day and night . Dave was lovely and very helpful , came to check we was happy with the cabin and if there was anything we needed . Would highly recommend!
We really enjoyed our mini break after the christmas period. The Shepherds Delight hut for us was great for us to spend time together along with the dogs. We where welocmed on arrival with extra dog towels and bedding for them, and also treated with a Shepherds pie each for dinner and a bottle of
Gorgeous place, very cosy and clean. Really lovely touch with the shepherd pie on arrival. We will defo be returning. Thank you for the great break.
Amazing, absolutely amazing. The hut, hot tub, view, food. Just amazing! Will definitely be back
We had the best time and we will definitely be coming back.
Deborah
Excellent holiday property and fabulous break. Everything clean, tidy, beautifully presented. Warm and toastie inside. Owners were very helpful with initial queries we had prior to our visit, and prompt to respond to a query we had on our first day. We felt welcome even before we had arrived. Hot tub great and maintained its temperature. Despite the frost, ice, rain and blustery winds outside, this was a stable hut which had all the facilities we could need in the well thought out space. Would visit again and would highly recommend
Bryony
We had no hot water for 2 days but other than that it was immaculate and we loved it! Wish we stayed for the 3 days which was the same price

Absolutely gorgeous! Had a lovely time here, with beautiful views and the accommodation was a home from home!
Perfect short break with everything needed for our stay. Very relaxing. Thank you
Very helpful and attentive hosts, resulting in a lovely relaxing break. No complaints from them that we had a nine stone Rottie in tow. Would highly recommend.
The hut is cosy, we had a lovely stay and it's nice and secluded but some of the images on the listing are not accurate and are obviously from a while ago. There was no ice bucket for the hot tub and the sun lounger chairs shown on the decking area were lying on the grass in front of the hut covered in mud. I have however recommended the place to friends and family so certainly not put off at all.
Gorgeous location and amazing accomodation, would highly recommend and will be back in the future
Absolutely beautiful secluded lodge. Everything was perfect. We ordered a vegetarian food hamper for 2 days and it was more than enough food. The meals were delicious and homemade, locally sourced produce and cooking instructions. Our dog absolutely loved her little break too. Claire and Dean are so lovely, and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much, we will be back.
Allanna
We really enjoyed our couple of nights away. We were away for our Birthday and took our wee dog with us. Cabin was decorated really nicely and had everything we needed already there. Bed was super comfy and we had a great sleep. Nice touch with our gift of a bottle of fizz and two pies which were so tasty! Thank you! The weather wasnt great while we were there but we still had a nice relaxing time and the nature around us was so nice, even spotted a bat and an owl at night! The only thing I would detail is that I wouldnt class it as dog friendly only because the area isnt closed off for the dog to be let off the lead to run around freely! Other than that the space is looked after, nice big area to wander around and the wee pond with the ducks and babies was so nice to wake up to.
Michael
We had an amazing stay everyone was so nice and the lodge was so peacefull and ... We had an amazing stay everyone was so nice and the lodge was so peacefull and comfy what a lovely little lodge would definately recommend going here
Lauren
Me and my partner had a lovely stay here the grounds are so beautiful and quiet. The lodge is so cosy and has everything you could need, the outside area is equipped with everything listed. We couldnt have enjoyed our stay more and we are already planning our next visit ! the homemade Shepards pie were delicious!
Brenda
The property is in a lovely position, its was clean and well kept. The hot tub was great . The area around was beautiful lovely walks for us and our dog especially Talig Tarn country park. The only down was the weather although it did not rain during the day to spoil walks it was cold and windy, nothing anyone can do about that but the hot tub warmed us up.
Very quite and private which we loved, the hot tub was great and would have used more weather permitting. The photo on the Web page looks different as an older picture taken a long time ago,we found the lodge was very dark and if the sun had been around we wouldn't have seen much as the trees are over grown, think the trees need s bit of a trim back, but we enjoyed the stay
Amanda
Absolutely loved our stay, we would recommend Shepherds Delight to anyone looking for either a romantic getaway or a base to explore the beautiful countryside. Our Hosts were wonderful and nothing was to much trouble. Had the hamper and like previous comments feeds you for more than 2 days, lovely welcome pie which was the icing on the cake. Will be back
Great accommodations and locations. Would return and recommend
Lovely place! The location was perfect, secluded but not too far from things to do. The cabin was clean, with everything provided that you might need. Bathroom is small, but that was not a problem. The hot tub was clean and the fairy lights are a lovely touch.
