A walk to the Hydro Turbine at Castle Drogo, Castle Drogo
Local route · Take a gentle walk down to Castle Drogo's Hydro Turbine on the River Teign to find out more about how it works. It was built >100 years ago to supply electricity to the castle & still does to the visitor centre. Hunters path is narrow & rocky in places.
Piddledown Common Walk, Castle Drogo
Local route · This route has two steep flights of steps (one down and one up with no handrail), which run along the top of a very steep hill over rocky crags. The paths are mostly dry and stony but can be muddy in places.
Teign Gorge Classic Circuit, Castle Drogo
Local route · Mixed terrain, both flat and uneven, with steep descents and moderate climbs. Some areas may be muddy/slippery underfoot. If you choose to return along Fishermans Path, you will have to negotiate the very steep up/down steps over the base of Sharp Tor.
