Muscat Reviews

Jessica
We stayed at the muscat lodge for a week, after reading mixed reviews we were a bit skeptical
Christine
The lodge was immaculate on arrival, apart from some cobwebs on the windows and garden furniture. Nicely furnished and comfortable sofa and beds. Good quality towels and linen. Kitchen appliances were all clean and in good working order, and easy to use. Nice that liquid and tablets were provided in the kitchen. The only disappointment was the size of the fridge with a tiny ice box, maybe this could be upgraded when it needs replacing. The loungedining area was comfortable, but too much furniture. It was difficult to walk past the sofa with the sideboard so close. I noticed that some of the other lodges had the sideboard under the TV, which would resolve the problem. We had a couple of maintainance issues and found that the managing agents were excellent and resolved the problem within a few hours. The hot tub was a lovely addition and worked really well. A couple of sunlougers in the garden would be nice as the king and queen furniture was too heavy to move. All in all, a lovely stay. We would recommend this property and will return ourselves
Rachel
Great location, Tesco only 7 minutes away for supples and mermaid gin bar just a few minutes away plus they have electric chargers which we used , great if you are there for food and drinks as its a free if you are a customer but takes time to charge. On arrival lodge smelt musty due to knowing about this issue on other reviews I bought along cleaning supplies to freshen up the lodge and also air fresheners which worked thankfully. Outdoor area also not clean on arrival and windows dirty so not a great first impression. We arrived just after the cleaner left so its was disappointing. Lodge bedrooms were warm but a fan is provided, if you like a quieter fan bring your own but we managed fine. There is no window to keep bedrooms fresh at night. Bedrooms have no dressing table or hairdryer but used area in the living room area to do make up. Doors are heavy and green light in bedroom also not great but used eye mask at night. Outdoor area full of cobwebs, leaves and not brushed down, hot tub was not warm on arrival which was disappointing and hot tub lid very heavy to move too. The lodge also had areas that needed painting and sofa also needs a clean. Location is next to a main road so you can hear traffic noise while in hot tub but again didnt bother us. We visit luxury lodges every year for celebrations so we do compare and this lodge needs some TLC and maybe some luxury diffusers to help the musty smell and maybe using nice smelling cleaning products would help. Kitchen was great but you are missing a pizza cutter and it was nice to be provided with kitchen roll, bin bags, dishwasher tablets, loo roll and hand wash. Just a few minor changes and this lodge would be improved. We did complain and we are receiving a small reimbursement which was a nice gesture. Overall the location is beautiful, kitchen is great and the bed is comfy!
All in all very good. We did fine the door handle very difficult to lock and unlock.
Angela
Really well situated for peace and quite even though it is close to the road and no noise from the mermaid on site. The bus stop is very close to the site. I cant wait to return it is a touch of paradise.
We had a semienjoyable week staying on the Isle of Wight at Muscat. The Lodge was in a location that looked very nice and has the benefit of being near a pub which served good food and drink. The Lodge was reasonably well appointed and had most of what you could need although is a little short on some equipment if you plan to cook more than something basic, i did a roast dinner but ran out of pots. Also if you cook anything make sure you open all the windows as the smoke alarms are extremely sensitive it would be best to have a heat alarm in the kitchen area to reduce false alarms. The thing that really spoiled things was the smell of drains from both bathrooms, I can see from other reviews is is a long standing issue. As the bathrooms are actually ensuites it makes things especially unpleasant when you go to bed and due to the lack of windows in the bedroom and the only one being in the bathroom it means you have to choice between being hot at night or smelling stinky drains. I am not sure if any remediation work has been undertaken to fix these issues but seeing as it gets mentioned so often in other reviews it would of been nice if even such basic measures of adding an air freshner for new guests whilst the issue is dealt with by the owners. If it wasn't for the drain smell and lack of ventalition in the bedrooms this would of been 5 Stars.

The property is a great size for 4 adults and a baby and the facilities are comfortable. We arrived by car and used the discount for the ferry from Portsmouth. The keys were easy to retrieve and when we arrived, the hot tub was prepared and ready to use. As soon as we arrived we noticed a smell of the drains coming up into both bathrooms so we had to leave the windows open and the fans on constantly however the smell was always present and noticeable. The bedrooms were very comfortable and furniture helped us to enjoy our stay for 5 nights. We wish there was a full length mirror and also that there was more serving utensils. The pans were scratched so the nonstick didnt work particularly well. The washing machine, oven, microwave and dishwasher worked well for us. Please note the property does not have a view of the sea directly you have to go up to the terrace at the local pub to see the sea, although we did capture a glimpse of the local barn owl hunting mice.
Dealing with Sykes was brilliant. When we arrived on Saturday 7th June we noticed an sewage aroma coming from our bathroom. We contacted the number provided on the 9th June with a message stating this. The smell got worse and unfortunately there was no reply from the owners. This was very unpleasant, especially at night as there is no bedroom window to leave open. Because of the smell we obviously could not leave the bathroom door open so no ventilation in our bedroom. We should have followed this up, but we had an elderly parent with us who kept us busy. Without this problem we would have been happy to have left 5 .
Lovely holiday property, great location and excellent hot tub! Only downside is the shortage of suitable cooking equipment e.g. baking trays, frying spatula etc plus a bit short on hanging space and hangers for clothes.
Lovely property in a brilliant location. Lodge was lovely, clean, hot tub was great and lodge well equipped. Some milk would of been helpful for a welcome cuppa. Water pressure was very strong for the sinks. Some door stops would be useful as our daughter struggled with the bedroom doors. If the mermaid bar offered takeaway pizzas it would have been amazing.
Lovely setting. Excellent facilities. Central location for Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin. Only downside was some traffic noise from the road that runs at the rear of the property, otherwise would have been 5.
Enjoyable stay, good layout for our strollerwalking stick friend. Great parking right outside. Loved the well maintained hot tub. Heat detector over oven very sensitive, heard a few go off, including ours. Understand fire doors and green exit lights, but they were a challenge. Living room chairs need more padding on the wooden strut at the back to stop them ruining the wall.
Christina
We had a fantastic stay here at Muscat. The property was beautiful and felt safe and comfortable. The area was also in a good location and was close to other tourist areas if you have a car and we saw a bus stop very close by too. Jon and Mel answered any questions we had and kindly provided us with basic necessities such as tea, milk, coffee, sugar and biscuits etc.. thank you. There were certain small things which could have been improved but certainly did not impact our stay. We felt there was definitely a need for a serving spoon or ladle in the kitchen cupboards. There seemed to be everything else other then this. There were also no cleaning facilities despite asking us to leave the lodge clean and tidy upon our departure we had to go out and buy surface wipestoilet rolls etc as there were no spares. Also could have done with some washing up liquid we were left with an empty bottle which had enough for a plate or two. We did find a few dead insects upon arrival also but again, this was an easy fix and easily missed. Overall though, there is everything you could want. An easy to use hot tub, tourist magazinesleaflets, TVs, two bathrooms, lots of kitchen equipment and guides on how to use oven etc.. and most of all, a beautiful lodge. Thank you both for a wonderful stay. We will definitely recommendwould return in the future.
Russell
Yes, the sinks were small, but more than adequate. Apart from that, an excellent place to stay Only minor comment I would add was that the patio door stop needs highlighting as it was easy to trip over on it when you first arrive.......as my other half did, fortunately without hurting herself.
Lovely property in a quiet location. Property was as described. Sinks are very small in bathrooms as noted in previous reviews. Welcome pack provided of Milk, tea and biscuits which was a nice gesture. Minature soap, shampoo and shower gel also provided but in only one of the bathrooms which was a little strange given that these are luxury adult only lodges and in the main two couples. Hot tub was a nice size only downside was patio not large enough so you had to go on grass to get round to steps from one of the bedrooms. Hedges between lodges at the rear are still relatively new so not a lot of privacy when in the hot tub. The Wishing Well pub IOW Destillery is at the entrance to the complex so handy for a drink meal
Really nice lodge, large space, good facilities! Nice and easy.
Luxury? No. The ridiculously tiny sinks in the bathrooms are enough to disallow such a high rating. A sapling growing out of the rear downpipe makes a query of maintenance. However, internally very well equipped and comfortable. Hot tub lovely.
The kitchenlounge area of the lodge was clean and generally well fitted out. The addition of a teapot would be good and also a 2nd oven glove lifting a hot dish out of the oven with 1 hand is not really safe. However, it is in the bathrooms that my criticism begins. The sink is way too small and it is difficult to get your head over the sink when cleaning your teethshaving. When sitting on the loo you can easily see very dirty marks on the front of the shower tray not acceptable. Sealant in the shower had dirtmould on it but even worse was the appalling smells that both shower rooms gave from the drains once you have taken a shower. Not nice when you sleep in the adjoining bedrooms and a possible health risk. Only 1 toilet roll was provided for each bathroom for a weeks stay. Also a hairdryer being provided would have been better than having to carry my own. Luxury lodge no . Eco lodge not sure how that can be with a hot tub outside, although not used by us. Such a shame as there is so much to enjoy about this accommodation..but not by us again.
The property was lovely and the location is really nice and well kept. We did have an issue with a leaking bathroom sink in one of the bedrooms which wasn't fixed by the time we left, however, Mel was very helpful and did call maintenance out and it wasn't too much of an issue. It was a really nice base for a weeks stay. Would definitely recommend.
Philip
Overall it was a wonderful experience staying in Muscat. I would definitely recommend it to others. Understandably to cater for everyone's personal tastes is very challenging indeed. So our only suggestion would be blackout curtains in the bedrooms.
Had a great time
Gerard
Fantastic property. Great setting location. All you could need for a short stay.
Robert
This is an ideal location for exploring the Isle of Wight. There is a pub and gin distillery almost on site that would normally also be a restaurant unfortunately they were between chefs at the time of our stay we had a problem with the internet in our holiday let but the owner did everything he could to help get it connected. Very clean, ample room for 4 adults and the hot tub was luxurious. Comfortable beds and great en suite showers. Only 20 minutes by car to the town of Ryde where there were ample restaurants to suit our needs. Will definitely consider using this let when we return for our next holiday
Absolutely fabulous accommodation and location. A lovely welcome nasket milk and bread just perfect. Everything you could possibly need apart from a full length mirror
