Island Yurt Reviews

Lovely stay at the island yurt. So peaceful so close to nature and wonderfully relaxing. The only negative is that the island yurt could really do with a deep clean.
Weve have been coming to the yurt for 8 years. Its such a lovely tranquil place with a wealth of beautiful wildlife. We have seen deer, rabbits, otters, kingfishers, herons, cormorants, kites, buzzards, kestrels and lots of other birds. The view across the lake is so relaxing. The king size bed is extremely comfortable. You have everything you need in the yurt to be totally self contained. There are two coffee shops within walking distance and lots of peaceful walks. Its a great place to bring a dog. Some of stuff is a bit tired, like the outside loungers for example. The bathroom cubicle could really do with a blind. For us the yurt represents great value and we have already booked again for next year. We have stayed at 2 of the other 3 yurts and would recommend those 2. You cant see another yurt from yours, unless you venture out on the rowing boat.
Was amazing. Was like we were on our own island so relaxing . Highly recommended.
Had a lovely weeks stay as always. This was the first time in this yurt and the shower made all the difference. Thank you Sarah and Dave for your hospitality. Always look forwards to our stay .Sad the Geese aren't around but was nice to see the Swans ,Ducks and rest of the wildlife .
Caroline
The bed was very low and the rails on the sides made it difficult to get in and out. From the outside the property was a bit tatty, in need of a bit of TLC, however, on a plus side we didn't sit looking at the yurt, we gazed at the lake. We were concerned about our dog going through the fence to chase the geese, swans etc so we felt we had to block the gaps off with chairs and dustbins. It wasn't the best staycation but it certainly wasn't the worst either.
Could do with a good deep clean ! Could with lick of paint ! Just general maintenance is needed This is our 2 nd visit in 12 months and we thought it might have been cleaner ! We will not return !!
Maureen
We have been coming here since it opened and found that it needs updating now I ... We have been coming here since it opened and found that it needs updating now I no you get cobwebs there but on book shelves and dusty floors outside furniture needs replacing all taped up with duck tape units inside need replacing now barbque all rusty
It was an amazing experience, me and my partner loved and enjoyed how cosy and quiet it was. The scenery and location is perfect, we loved having the ducks coming up to see us every morning on the decking. Everything was perfect, the bed was super cosy, the hot tub and sauna were relaxing, the boat was fun to row and explore the lake on. Overall it was an amazing little getaway, just perfect for recharging our batteries. Will 100 come back!
We have stayed there before so we knew the pros and cons. The cooker was still incomprehensible to me but I managed the hob this time. A problem we had with the projector was dealt with swiftly and efficiently. The position was lovely and the dog enjoyed his walks in the woods. It was so peaceful and great for watching birds.
We enjoyed our week in the yurt immensely. It was warm and cosy, the bed was comfortable and the kitchen part adequately equipped. The The screen and projector worked well and there were plenty of dvds. Everything was clean. We loved the hot tub on the patio. It was so peaceful, we saw a lot of different birds on the lake, and deer and pheasants in the grounds. Our little dog loved the walks.
Accommodation as described, lovely getaway. Lakes were a lovely view but could do with better fishing facilities ie pegs and maybe a few bushes cut down on other lake to be able to cast out. Close for travelling to other areas. Owners very polite and helpful
A lovely peaceful beautiful scenery with loads of birds, ducks and geese on show, A hidden little gem.
We had a warm welcome to the Yurt we stayed in. It was private, clean, had everything we needed to enjoy our week away with our doggie in tow! Loved the wildlife, the bbq, hot tub and hot showers. Very friendly locals, happy to talk and gave us heaps of great eating out suggestions! Beckford postal cafe was lovely. Daily trips out were finished off by a relaxing evening in the Yurt. Felt like home from home! Thanks Sarah
Absolutely disgusting it was filthy dirty we paid for 7nights and stay 1
Stephen
Dirty and mouldy. Worn out and tired. Not as advertised. Do not book this yurt. NO full refunds given
Holiday was beautiful, weather was great. Property exceeded expectations would never know that there were others holidaying nearby. Wildlife fantastic saw a kingfisher and many many gooses and ducks. Would go again
Nicole
This was a perfect place to unwind and relax, the property is beautiful inside and out, with everything you need for a relaxing stay.
We very, very rarely leave a negative review, however, we wish we had read between the lines of other reviews and noted the dates often 810 years ago with few recent reviews, before booking the Island Yurt in Beckford. We have stayed in yurts before and each time experienced a wonderfully relaxing break in a beautifully furnished yurt, clean, cosy and welcoming, set in idyllic countryside. There are four yurts in Beckford, erected over 10 years ago in 2014 and they have evidently never been dismantled or refreshed. The photos online appear idyllic, however, sadly do not reflect our experience. Fishing from the tired decking and landing a larger fish would have been extremely difficult given the old BBQ, overhead construction and hot tub in the way. The surrounding water was inaccessible, very overgrown and smelt stagnant. Several reviews reflect the reality as politely as possible and mirror the need for a deep clean and refurbishment, items that require attention or replacement, ageing decking and old fake grass matting, fly and grimecovered light bulb, rusty BBQ, ancient spider webs, vegetation overgrowth and the acrid stagnant smell that permeates the yurt and surrounding area. The owners appear friendly and offered to call someone out to fix the hob that wasn't working. The yurt had been cleaned inside and clean bedding, towels and robes are provided by a professional company. However, for a neutropenic cancer patient approaching more surgery the risk of infection was too great for my husband, so we didn't even unpack the car and sadly returned home. Extremely disappointing and no refund forthcoming on the basis that 'the owners couldn't smell anything'. This place could be so much better with some dedicated TLC and investment in the guests' holiday surroundings and experience.
Perfect holiday! We took inflatable kayaks and spent most of the holiday on the lakes. Surrounded by so much wildlife ducks, geese, herons, black swans, deer, rabbits and smaller birds, we even saw some of the fish in the lakes. Yes, some things were a bit tired or broken, but it added to the charm for us. Perfect evenings spent on the deck with a fire and cooking on the barbecue! Owners were lovely and explained how things worked which was nice. Oh and I totally fell in live with the shower, the rainfall head was good, but the waterblade couldn't be beaten. The most perfect decompression holiday we have ever had. Definitely want to rebook for next year.
Nicholas
Best holiday I've had since 2012. ..I really hope whoever books this holiday has the same relaxing and brilliant time....will certainly book again in near future...Nick Cottage no pun there !!
HI IT WAS NICE QUIET AND PEACEFUL A GOOD GET AWAY FROM IT ALL DESTINATION. A FEW THINGS CAN DO WITH UPDATING APART FROM THAT IT WAS OK FOR ME BUT MY PARTNER DID NOT LIKE THE CREEPY CRAWLIES INSIDE THE ACCOMMODATION. A PLACE TO VISIT AGAIN
Jonathan
An amazing getaway hideout for our honeymoon. We stayed on island Yurt for a week the setting is perfect and so peaceful. Our Yurt was clean and ready on arrival the owner met us and showed us around. Kitchen contains all pots, pans and cutlery with kettle, toaster and microwave with grill, fridge with small top freezer box and a dishwasher. Bathroom with good size shower and instant hot water, large comfy bed, sauna, hot tub, firepit, BBQ and reclining chairs all in a good outside space set on the scenic lake. A small area exists at the back of the Yurt for parking which is handy for unpacking and packing, there is also a small rowing boat with is fun to cruise around the lake. The wildlife around the lake is amazing with Australian Black swans, Canadian Geese, Heron, Squirrel and some of the most beautiful dragonfly you'll see. With permission the owners are happy for you to fish, caught lots of Roach and Rudd but not carp as conditions were extremely hot for the week. Location is ideal for exploring the cotswolds sited 10 miles north of Cheltenham with easy access to the A46 with Evesham and Tewkesbury Close by for shops. Had we not gone out exploring we wouldn't have seen a soul so peaceful is the location but owners on hand via a quick call if any queries. Wouldn't hesitate to rebook fantastic place.
Im hesitant to leave a bad review because the owners were lovely and very helpful but I want to leave a review that I wish I had seen before I booked, so Im going to start with the good feedback first the owners are very kind, approachable, accommodating and helpful. the view was stunning and it was lovely to be so near the ducks and geese and swans everyday. the hot tub was wonderful! We spent lots of time in it and we absolutely loved it. Okay, now the bad feedback its been commented on a lot and I have to say, most of the weight of my score is based around the cleanliness of the place. Ive stayed in other yurts before, so I know what to expect, but it was very clear that the place doesnt get a regular clean, or that it certainly doesnt get a regular deep clean. The tops of the doorframes were thick with dust, we needed to look under the bed to plug a wire into the dvd player and it was the same under there, plus there were several very large spiders whose webs were clearly not fresh. When we walked in, the place smelled of bleach which was fine, but as the days went on, whatever the bleach was masking came out and became very unpleasant. My partner had to put tiger balm under his nose to mask the smell so he could sleep at night. I think, given the tariff of the yurt, as standard, the property should be properly cleaned in between every visit because a consistent upkeep of cleaning would 100 improve the cleanliness of the yurt. the cleanliness also extends to the cooking tools the outdoor bbq was full of spiders and when we lit the bbq, I think we may have burned a nest of spiders because there was a lot of popping and crackling. Not a cleaning issue with the fire pit but the grate was broken so we couldnt make use of it. the bathroom has no facilities to hold your toiletries or even a towel rack, which isnt the biggest issue but it doesnt reflect luxury. Plus there is no blind or curtain on the window in the bathroom, which isnt ideal. the bins are located in a drawer in the kitchen which is a few feet from the bed, so the smell starts to ripen where you sleep, quite quickly. the sauna gave us an electric shock, so we stopped using it. To be fair, we didnt report this to the owners because we forgot to. the heater was temperamental there were no basics to get you started, cookingwise ie no salt, pepper, oil etc. We ended up leaving a day early and the owners didnt even question it, so not sure how regularly that happens or if they just didnt register that we were leaving early. If youre looking for something rustic and outdoorsy, this will be perfect, but if youre looking for luxury Im afraid to say this doesnt live up to that standard, at all.
Catherine
Yurt is well furnished and bed very comfortable. Hot tub was lovely and really enjoyed messing around in the little rowing boat on the lake! My husband swam every day, accompanied by the ducks and two black swans who all visited us everyday they would have happily joined us IN the yurt had it not been for our dog, Mabel, who thought that was a step too far! Cooked jacket spuds and baked Camembert in the fire pit! A wonderful mix of glamping and nature. Feel rejuvenated and ready to face reality! Will definitely go back!
Teressa
We loved this week away, we haven't felt so relaxed for a long time. Somethings looked a little tired, however once we settled in it was soon forgotten about. Loved it! Want a duck now though
Kimberley
What a lovely little holiday this was. So relaxing and away from the world. Lovely local pubs and a nice fish and chips shop what we found 8mins up the road. Which was also nice. Inside the yurt wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. But for us it was everything what we needed. My honest opinion tho, it could do with a good deep clean and abit of tlc in places but overall this didn't bother us. This is just feed back for the owner to take on board. We would still come back . Owner was very friendly and left us to put own accord. Top bloke. We did some fishing, the hub tub was lovely and sauna. We used the BBQ one night and the film projector kept us entertained on the rainy nights. The ducks are hungry little monkey and they would be waiting at the back door every morning waiting for some food. I love the wildlife so this was right up my street. I named a few of the ducks as they was pretty funny to watch. They obviously was very used to humans and they sat inches away from us. The family of goose and black swans came and visited us every day too. And the 2 herons sat close to there willow trees. So loads of wildlife to explore. We also had another yurt which my mum and dad stayed at. My dad's a big fishing guy and he caught some good sized fish. So there are some nice carp in there. Overall the surrounding kind of out lay the little points I said what need improving. But till would make a better experience next time. Thanks again and hopefully see you again in the future The mckeons And the head family's
The yurt was in a wonderful position , away from the rest of the world, with uninterrupted views of the lake and all the associated wildlife. During our stay the weather was consistently foul so we were not able to use the outside cooking or relaxing facilities much but the hot tub was lovely during gaps in the rain. The projector was useful ,the fire was very efficient and the shower lovely and warm. Personally I found the cooking facilities quite complicated but that was a minor issue. The dog enjoyed sitting under the canopy watching all the wildlife and experiencing all the different smells on his walks. A good place for outdoor people.
We had a fantastic time, the yurt was very comfortable. A few spiders but who cares they won't hurt you. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. It was nice to see Freddie again and we are looking forward to seeing him again. We have booked again for June 2024.
Elaine
The yurt was clean and tidy, the surrounding area lakes etc were so peaceful and quiet, we had a very relaxing time. Took lots of wildlife photos. and my husband enjoyed the fishing. The owner was friendly and showed us around and how everything worked, Loved the hot tub, BBQ, pizza oven and the fire pit.
Absolutely the best holiday by far. The area is beautiful and very quiet, we love seeing all the wildlife and of coarse the hot tub. Absolutely cant wait to go back next year we have already booked and it will be our 5th year.
Kirsty
Absolutely stunning place. Loved every minute. Would benefit from anual maintenance to repaint decking, prune trees, deep clean. Overall outstanding though
Oh the place was amazing, yurt really felt like home. Could do with a deep clean and cover on toilet window. My partner was always in the sauna. We both enjoyed the jacuzzi. I used the little boat several times. Bbq and fire pit awesome. I fell in love with the black swans which came right over to see us everyday. The sounds of the trees, Lake and birds was magical. Thankyou for an amazing holiday x
Lovely peaceful, location. Yurt is lovely.
The seclusion, privacy and closeness to wildlife was just what we wanted. The bed was very comfy. Hot tub was wonderful. A few more items of basic crocketyglasses, rather than only two or three items of each. I would certainly go back again. Good food at Beckford but pricey. Gardener's Arms in a vilage a short dricve away is good.
Absolutely beautiful place, wonderful hosts Had an amazing relaxing weekend ...
